Purification and separation of hydrogen from any feed gases – no technology platform can do this component of hydrogen value creation as efficiently as our patented EHS (Electrochemical Hydrogen Separation).
In addition to the actual product gas, many natural gas deposits also contain hydrogen, but this is simply burned because it is not wanted in the product gas. The SIQENS EHS separates the hydrogen and thus enables two things: a high-purity product gas and value creation from high-purity hydrogen.
Hydrogen gas streams are often contaminated by production or transport. The SIQENS EHS reliably removes these impurities from the gas without a complex process.
Hydrogen occurs on Earth almost exclusively in bound form. Although the splitting can take place using a reformer and water-gas shift reactor, separating the gas mix of H2, CO, CO2 and other by-products that is then present has so far been an energy-intensive task. However, with SIQENS EHS, the process becomes an energy-efficient method of hydrogen production.
The feed gas with the hydrogen it contains is fed to the electrochemical membrane via flow plates. The voltage applied there allows the hydrogen to pass through, but not the additional gases.
No high-performance compressors are required for operation because the EHS also works at atmospheric pressure. This efficiency of the process control is significant.
The individual cells are assembled as a stack sized to produce 40 kg of H2 per day. These stacks can be flexibly scaled and connected next to each other. Production of 1000 kg/day is no problem.
The SIQENS EHS is not only very resistant to a wide range of impurities, but thanks to the electrochemical process it also delivers a more consistent product gas quality with a long shelf life.
