The SIQENS Ecoport, a methanol fuel cell (HT-PEM), supplies reliable and low-emission electricity where it is needed: decentralized, off-grid and under demanding conditions. Our technology paves the way for sustainable and efficient off-grid applications. We have compiled a – non-exhaustive – overview here.

Emergency power supply for critical infrastructure

Critical infrastructure supplied by Siqens Ecoport

Whether police or emergency call, whether surveillance systems, emergency lighting or network technology – business-critical systems in particular require an absolutely uninterruptible power supply. The Ecoport takes on this task reliably, as backup power or Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS), combined with solar and wind to meet crisis-proof power requirements.

Off-grid energy for construction containers in opencast mining

Power supply for construction containers

Construction sites, quarries or mines often lack a conventional grid connection – and yet electricity is essential. The Ecoport supplies off-grid power for lighting, machinery or safety equipment, for example. Hybridization with solar is efficient and economical.

Critical radio networks in alpine regions

Off-grid power supply in alpine regions

In Tyrol, for example on the Messelingkogel, the Ecoport 800 ensures the power supply for radio relay stations, including small heaters for de-icing. This keeps communication intact even in winter and under extreme conditions – for months on end, powered by a methanol tank with high autonomy.

Emergency power in the event of a disaster – resilient instead of diesel-dependent

According to recent studies, diesel generators are often unreliable (e.g. lack of fuel storage capacity). Methanol, on the other hand, is stable in the long term and ready for use at any time – ideal for crisis scenarios. With the Ecoport, communication and monitoring systems can be supplied easily and with low emissions in the event of a disaster.

Energy supply for wind farm construction and obstruction lighting

During the construction of wind turbines, the Ecoport takes over the temporary power supply for lighting, security and technical control. This allows wind farms to be illuminated in an environmentally friendly way until the grid connection is in place.

Traffic monitoring and measurement data

Stationary or mobile measuring stations for recording traffic data – such as speed controls, counting stations or environmental measuring points – often require a reliable, weatherproof power supply. Ecoport supplies these systems independently of the mains power supply, ensures continuous data transmission and reduces maintenance work thanks to long operating cycles with a single methanol tank.

Security, surveillance and dual-use

Whether video surveillance on large construction sites, protection of border and industrial facilities or temporary events – the Ecoport is a reliable power source for cameras, sensors and communication systems. Autonomous surveillance towers in particular, whether mobile or stationary, need a reliable power supply to ensure their operational readiness. Thanks to methanol operation, the Ecoport functions independently of the power grid. It offers weeks to months of autonomy, even under difficult weather conditions. This means that the Ecoport fuel cell is also ideally suited to supply both civilian and defense applications in dual-use applications.

Combination with renewable methanol for climate-friendly power generation

Thanks to the use of methanol from renewable sources, the Ecoport can be operated in a climate-neutral manner. It has low maintenance requirements, low emissions (no particulate matter, no nitrogen oxides) and an excellent CO₂ balance overall.

To summarize

The Siqens Ecoport fuel cell offers a wide range of possible uses – always with a focus on clean, reliable and decentralized energy supply. Whether in industry, disaster control or security technology, it is a flexible, low-emission power generator – easy to handle, robust and climate-friendly.
