Munich, 22.04.2025 – At this year’s ees Europe (Hall B2.450H), which takes place as part of The smarter E Europe from 7 – 9 May 2025 in Munich, Munich-based SIQENS GmbH will once again be presenting its established methanol fuel cell solutions as well as the innovative technology for electrochemical hydrogen separation (EHS). These solutions enable decentralised, economical and flexible hydrogen production and supply.

With the EHS technology, SIQENS addresses central challenges of the hydrogen economy: upgrading the gas grid as a comprehensive infrastructure for hydrogen, obtaining high-purity hydrogen, precise availability on site and tapping into natural hydrogen sources.

EHS: High-purity hydrogen – where it is needed

The great advantage of EHS technology lies in its ability to extract hydrogen from gas mixtures in an energy-efficient manner. In contrast to conventional processes such as pressure swing adsorption or membrane separation, EHS works with significantly lower energy consumption and at the same time offers high selectivity for hydrogen.

Thanks to its modular design, EHS technology can be scaled flexibly – depending on the gas volume or composition. It can therefore be used both to recover hydrogen from industrial processes and to treat hydrogen directly from natural gas or biogas sources.

Sustainable solution for energy suppliers and industry

EHS technology makes it possible to extract hydrogen exactly where it is needed – whether for direct consumption in fuel cells, for local storage or for feeding into the commercial grid. Its use is particularly interesting for energy suppliers and municipal utilities that want to implement a decentralised hydrogen supply via the existing gas network.

‘Our EHS technology has the potential to be a game changer for the hydrogen economy,’ says Dr Thomas Klaue, Managing Director of SIQENS GmbH. ‘It makes an economical and flexible supply of hydrogen possible – without having to wait for new infrastructures.’
